On a Tuesday morning I went on a 30 minute scenic drive with one of Matthijs’ friends. Destination: the glasshouse in Leerdam. At that moment the glassworkers were turning two of Christie van der Haak’s designs into glass vases that weigh over 12kg. A fascinating process to observe. Over several hours a took way too many pictures, while Matthijs’ friend filmed everything and interviewed Christie. In between all of this she was so kind to explain the whole process to me, so I knew when to pay close attention, or run to be in the right place at the right moment. If you’re curious how the vases turned out, they are on display until 28 October 2018 at the Nationaal Glasmuseum.
