Between the Dots collects as little personal information as possible. However, for some services it is necessary to collect some data. Below a statement on what information we collect, for what purpose we do this, and how we protect it.

Purpose, processing, and protection
Between the Dots collects data for different purposes:

When visitors leave comments on the site, data shown in the comments form is collected, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

2. E-mail
When visitors send an e-mail to or, data shown and given in their e-mail is collected. This data will be safed as long as necessary. It will not be used for marketing purposes without your explicit consent.

If you have subscribed to the newsletter, you will only receive emails you have signed up to receive, or which pertain to the services we provided to you. To send you emails the name and email address you provided will be used. The IP address you used when you signed op for the service will be logged to prevent abuse of the system.This website sends emails through the MailPoet sending service. This service allows Between the Dots to track opens and clicks on our emails. This information is used to improve the content of the newsletters. No identifiable information is otherwise tracked outside this website except for the email address.

3. Photographic services
When Between the Dots is hired for photographic services, all data necessary to deliver what is agreed upon is collected: name, address, phone number(s), e-mail address(es), date(s), location(s), timeschedule, order details, payment details, and, if applicable to the order, portraits. This information will be stored in a personal account at TransIP B.V., a Dutch company with servers in The Netherlands that doesn’t analyse stored files.  Find their privacy policy here.

Photos will be retained indefinitely, unless otherwise decided. Personal data will be retained for as long as needed.

Images won’t be sold to third parties without consent.

4. Analytics
For detailed reports on and its visitors, Between the Dots uses Matomo, a web analytics software platform hosted on the webserver of Visitors IPs are automatically anonymized, and their behaviour is not shared with advertising companies.

The following data is tracked through a first party cookie:

  • Anonymized User IP address
  • Date and time of the request
  • Title of the page being viewed (Page Title)
  • URL of the page being viewed (Page URL)
  • URL of the page that was viewed prior to the current page (Referrer URL)
  • Screen resolution being used
  • Time in local user’s timezone
  • Files that were clicked and downloaded (Download)
  • Links to an outside domain that were clicked (Outlink)
  • Pages generation time (the time it takes for webpages to be generated by the webserver and then downloaded by the user: Page speed)
  • Location of the user: country, region, city, approximate latitude and longitude (Geolocation)
  • Main Language of the browser being used
  • User Agent of the browser being used

If you’ve had contact on/through, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided. You have the right to object against tracking for analytical purposes through an opt-out. You can also request that we erase any personal data. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
